NotebookLM wants to redefine research with AI

Source: NotebookLM

Our digital world is a raging river of information, and it’s hard to stay afloat. Sure, having all that knowledge at our fingertips is great — but the real trick is figuring out how to keep it all straight.

Alphabet’s tackling the problem with an experimental platform called NotebookLM designed to be a study buddy, a productivity coach, a veteran librarian, and your favorite podcast host all wrapped into one. Think of it like a souped-up version of Docs that uses AI to help you make sense of videos, research, and meeting notes.

What’s it for?

  • Organizing: Transform cluttered notes into different formats, including timelines, study guides, and FAQs

  • Curating: Pull out only the most relevant information from your notes so you don’t waste time digging through unnecessary details

It’s clearly a handy tool for students and academics, but it’s also a great for professionals who want to manage projects and brainstorm ideas.

It just got a major overhaul: Earlier this month, Alphabet introduced an “audio overview” feature that lets you instantly turn any document into a podcast featuring two AI-generated hosts. Now, you can do the same with videos and audio — then share it with colleagues or classmates via a link.

Why it matters: By leveraging AI to organize, curate, and even vocalize information, NotebookLM could revolutionize how we learn and work — making complex data more accessible and actionable for everyone from students to professionals.

What’s next for OpenAI?

Three top executives are out as OpenAI sheds its non-profit status and becomes a for-profit company. Is this the real-life equivalent of the “this is fine” meme — or can the startup turn it all around?

Nothing to see here: For his part, Sam Altman wrote that “leadership changes are a natural part of companies, especially companies that grow so quickly and are so demanding.” But critics pointed out that Altman is poised to get a 7% stake during the reshuffling, raising ethical concerns.

Some perspective: While the internal chaos is alarming, OpenAI is by all accounts still the AI company to beat. o1 is the most powerful LLM around, Advanced Voice mode is far more realistic than rival voice bots, and the long-awaited video model Sora could give the startup another boost.

Besides, OpenAI is about to get an injection of $6.5B in a record-setting funding round. For better or worse, it’ll likely take a lot more than some high-profile resignations to slow its momentum. As ChatGPT head of engineering Sulman Choudhry put it: “AGI isn’t here yet, but you can feel it.”

How to create interactive data dashboards with Claude

Data dashboards are a great way to visualize and understand data. However, building data dashboards can be time-consuming and require specialized skills. Fortunately, AI can help you create data dashboards without writing a single line of code. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Claude’s website and sign up. Make sure you select Claude 3.5 Sonnet as your model and turn on the artifact feature.

  2. Attach your CSV file and enter the prompt:

"Create an interactive dashboard from this data."

  1. Wait for Claude to process your data and generate the dashboard.

Pro tips:

  • You can customize your dashboard by adding or removing charts, changing the colors, and adding filters.

  • You can also export your dashboard as an image or HTML file.

Prompt of today

Prompts:

A beautiful woman with brunette hair, wearing a pastel sweater, close-up portrait with a sad expression. She is looking down at her hands with her eyes closed and her mouth open in profile. The background is blurred with neon lights, creating a bokeh effect and shallow depth of field. The image has a soft focus, professional color grading, and soft shadows with minimal contrast, resulting in a clean, sharp focus and a bohemian style. --ar 3:4
