AI video generator raises the bar for realism
ALSO: Translate videos with AI
In a little over a year, we’ve gone from terrifying AI videos of Will Smith eating spaghetti to ones that are much closer to reality. Now, a startup called MiniMax is pushing the envelope with realistic hand movements, something that had so far eluded most LVMs.

A new AI video generator cracks the ‘spaghetti test’
Source: Hailuo AI
We might finally have an AI model that beats the “spaghetti benchmark.” Remember those nightmare-inducing videos last year that showed Will Smith eating a bowl of spaghetti? At the time, they were used as proof that text-to-video models still had a long way to go.
Since then, creators have been using the spaghetti prompt to put different large video models (LVMs) to the test. Some say Video-01, a new model from Chinese startup MiniMax, is now the one to beat, offering an unprecedented level of realism, whether depicting spaghetti-eating, cityscapes, or nature closeups.
The details:
MiniMax renders six-second videos at 1280x720p in under a minute
Clips created with the model are already trending on social media just days after it launched
The company is already working on Video-02, which will feature 10-second clips and other improvements
Users can access the model via the Hailuo AI web platform
The 2021-founded startup also has a music generator, a text generator, and a personality-driven chatbot similar to Character AI
What sets it apart? One of the easiest ways to spot AI-generated content: If there’s a person in the image or video, take a look at their hands. Even state-of-the-art AI models struggle with generating complex human features. But early users claim MiniMax is able to render hand movements with more precision than its rivals — even if it’s still far from perfect.

OpenAI co-founder’s new startup raises $1B in race toward ASI
Most firms try different tactics until they land on a winning strategy. OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever is throwing all of that logic aside. He wants only one thing: To be the first to achieve artificial superintelligence — and to do so with safety top of mind.
The legendary computer scientist, who left OpenAI earlier this year, just raised $1B for his new company, Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI). With backing from Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, and other major VCs, it’s now reportedly valued at around $5B.
SSI says it’ll use the funding to hire a small team of highly skilled researchers, along with computing power to train its models — with the ultimate goal of creating AI that far exceeds human intelligence.
Prompt of today
Prompts:
Create a high-end minimalistic iPhone wallpaper with a gradient from electric blue to neon orange. The design should feature bold, electrifying colors and a subtle texture to add a premium feel. Ensure the overall look is striking, vibrant, and clean, with a focus on the high-energy contrast between the colors. --v 6.1 --ar 9:16
